From the beginning of the school year I have been improving my advication skills and for this semester I can celebrate the extensive success advication brings. Some concrete evidence of advications positive effect on my education is in spanish class when I felt that I was falling behind, due to lack of doing my work because I wanted to talk to my friends and not worry about my grade. It was getting close to the end of the semester so I went in and talked to susy respectfully with my concerns about my garde. I thought our relationship was strained because of my disengagement and distracting qualities. When I took ahold of my education and found the time to talk to her she gave me the resources and help I needed to finish the missing assignments. This learning experience has not only strengthened my relationship with Susy but also improved my overall student habits.
Another skill I can celebrating from this semester is my adaptability in classes. I have always put up mental blocks and was afraid of my abilities in art. My tendency to create these blocks root from fear of failure. This year I was able to see myself adapt and start taking down the mental blocks that I have created. For example this semester I have been the most proud of the art that I have done and in my eyes adapted to my fear and can continue to conquer it with confidence. I have also adapted to using other styles of drawing which I may not be as comfortable with. This has made my confidence in art manifest into confidence and adaptability that resonates in all my classes.
Finally, the last skill I am going to highlight from this semester is critical and outside the box thinking. Examples of me doing this well in a class is in intro to engineering where we had 2 projects. The first project we had to create a hydraulic hand. We didn't have much instruction on how to construct the hand. This pushed me to create a unique design different to previous models and examples. Our creativity showed though this project and our new ways of doing things improved my overall realm of possibility. The critical thinking we used to come up with the design that won the overall competition that we had in class. The 2nd project we built a plane out of cardboard and popsicle sticks. We decided to carry over our critical thinking to this project and make a unique plane design. Once again this opens up possibilities we may not have had if we kept it simple and it payed off because we won the competition for the planes as well.
With everything I have done well this semester, are also many places that have room for improvement. The fist skill that could use improvement is my accountability. I make the choice not be accountable in humanities and when it is work time I often socialized with peers and procrastinated until I would forget about the project. I saw this effecting me and it continued to stress me out the further and further I got behind. The evidence that I have to show for this weakness is in my humanities class as a whole. My disengagement in the curriculum was prevalent to my teacher and myself. The main thing holding back my accountability and something I want to strive to change about myself, is the mindset i have toward my work. In the past my learning disabilities have made humanities frustrating and gave me an excuse to give up. I plan to change this through more focus on advication because when I work with teachers it eliminates the excuse not to be accountable with my work.
Another character skill I would like to improve on in myself is my motivation.I have a harder time finding what can help me want to work. At the end of a project the feeling of pride I get when I actually try was never seen at the very beginning. It always turned into regret when I did not try my hardest and was not as proud as I know I could have been. Turning my potential into quality work aimed to be a harder task than I expected and it has affected me in math a great deal. My best evidence for this is my failing grade in math. Seeing study guides and assignments I automatically assumed I would not be able to do them and felt useless which completely depleted my motivation to study or complete assignments.
Question
At exhibition i was in the easy way out path i see how this is ironic because i find the shortest and easiest ways to do things. So my question is what would it be like if i never took the short cuts. Never took the easy way out?
